"The other man lives in the interior farther South. "And the other ?" My interest is strangely stirred. I could send you to him, but I fear that he may refuse to admit a European " Certainly no European has yet been able to intrude upon his seclusion. Few people are permitted to obtain access to him. One of them lives in Banaras hidden away in a large house, which is itself hidden among spacious ground. I only know of two masters in India who could give you what you wish. His holiness does not reply ,till after an interval of protracted silence. " Can you not direct me to such a master ,one you know is competent to give me proofs of the reality of our higher yoga ?" The following is the excerpts from his book He was advised to go to Thiruvannamalai and meet Maharishi Ramana Bhagawan and that only from him, he will find the answer he is seeking in his life. ĭuring his meeting with his holiness Kanchi Chandrasekharendra Swamigal In this book he traces his journey in India, seeking the truth of life while meeting Yogis, rishis and great saints. He is best known as one of the early popularizers of Neo-Hindu spiritualism in western esotericism, notably via his bestselling book "A Search in Secret India" which has been translated into over 20 languages. Thiruvannamalai and Ramana Maharishi Bhagwan is more easily understood through writings of Paul Brunton ,a pen name of Raphael Hurst, a British author of spiritual books. To name a few Seshadri Swamigal, Shri Chandrasekharendra swamigal iof Kanchi, Maharishi Ramana Bhagawan of Thiruvannamalai, Gnananandha Swamigal of Thirukovilur and Swamy Vivekananda, the philosopher In spiritual India the period around 1940, saw the the presence and eminence of great saints and philosophers. I went unprepared and trekked in leather slippers and it was difficult.Ī Write up on Ramanashram in Thiruvannamalai See my other post to know more of this wonderful trek. As you come out of the ashram, refreshed and calmer, begin the trek to virupaksha cave. There are cottages available for stay and one can book these by writing to the ashram. Maintain silence always as a mark of respect. As you go inside you will visit the peaceful temple, meditation hall and samadhi of Bhagawan. One would be invited by monkeys joyfully playing. Toilets are outside and I prefer to wear footwear before entering one. Please note that if you want to visit the virupaksha cave ( there is a path from inside which joins the path from outside - you need to come out and wear your footwear). After parking inside one can leave the shoes in the taxi or leave it it close by outside the ashram. The place is close to the temple by taxi. I will write separately on the temple as this is about Ramana ashramam. We took a brief halt midway at a nice restaurant for breakfast. We took a taxi from from Chennai to Arunachaeshwarar temple at 5 am. If one visits Tiruvannamalai, take the time to visit Ramana Maharishi Ashram.
